Our Privacy Principles
At Hiper Hipo we have a few fundamental principles regarding privacy:
- We’ll never ask you for personally identifiable information unless it’s truly needed.
- We protect your personal information and will only provide it to third parties: (1) with your consent; (2) where it is necessary to carry out your instructions; (3) as reasonably necessary in order to provide our features and functionality to you; (4) when we reasonably believe it is required by law, subpoena or other legal process; or (5) as necessary to enforce our User Agreement or protect the rights, property, or safety of Hiper Hipo, its Members and Visitors, and the public.
- We have implemented appropriate security safeguards designed to protect your information in accordance with industry standards.
As used in this Policy, “personally-identifying information” is information that specifically identifies an individual, such as an individual’s name, address, telephone number, or e-mail address. Personally-identifying information also includes information about an individual’s activities, such as information about his or her activity on our Services, and demographic information, such as date of birth, gender, geographic area, and preferences, when any of this information is linked to personally-identifying information that identifies that individual.
Personally-identifying information does not include “aggregate” or other non-personally-identifying information. Aggregate information is information that we collect about a group or category of products, services, or users that is not personally identifiable or from which individual identities are removed. We may use and disclose aggregate information, and other non-personally-identifying information, for various purposes.
Like most website operators, Hiper Hipo collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Hiper Hipo’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how Hiper Hipo’s visitors use its website. From time to time, Hiper Hipo may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.
Hiper Hipo also logs potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users and for users leaving comments on our website’s blog. Hiper Hipo only discloses logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below, except that blog commenter IP addresses are visible and disclosed to the administrators of the blog where the comment was left.
Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information
Certain visitors to Hiper Hipo’s website choose to interact with Hiper Hipo in ways that require Hiper Hipo to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that Hiper Hipo gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask for a valid email address from visitors wishing to opt-in to our mailing list. (Email addresses collected for Hiper Hipo’s mailing list are stored by a trusted 3rd party vendor and not on Hiper Hipo servers.) In each case, Hiper Hipo collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with Hiper Hipo. Hiper Hipo does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. Visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website or product-related activities.
Hiper Hipo may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its websites. For instance, Hiper Hipo may monitor IP addresses or blog comments to help identify spam. Such information is used internally to assist Hiper Hipo and is not disclosed publicly. While some general visitor data is collected such as referral page, page views, and hits, Hiper Hipo does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.
Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information
Hiper Hipo discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on Hiper Hipo’s behalf or to provide services available at Hiper Hipo’s websites, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those employees, contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country; by using Hiper Hipo’s websites, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. Hiper Hipo will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above, Hiper Hipo discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when Hiper Hipo believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of Hiper Hipo, third parties or the public at large. If you are a registered user of a Hiper Hipo website and have supplied your email address, Hiper Hipo may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with Hiper Hipo and our products. We primarily use our various product blogs to communicate this type of information, so we expect to keep this type of email to a minimum. If you send us a request (for example via a support email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish it in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users. Hiper Hipo takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.
Customer Support or Inquiries
Website visitors or registered users may submit customer support requests or inquiries using our online contact form or via publicly available means such as email, postal mail, or IRC chat. The data collected in such inquiries will be seen by our customer service representatives and will never be shared. Such communication will only be used internally by Hiper Hipo in an effort to address the respective inquiry or support request, including improving Hiper Hipo products and services.
If Hiper Hipo, or substantially all of its assets, were acquired, or in the unlikely event that Hiper Hipo goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquirer of Hiper Hipo may continue to use your personal information as set forth in this policy.
Hiper Hipo-enabled Websites and Links to Other Web Sites
Hiper Hipo services are hosted in the United States and are intended for United States visitors. If you are using the Hiper Hipo services from the European Union or other regions with laws governing data collection and use that may differ from United States law, please note that you are transferring your personal data to the United States. Also, we may transfer your data from the United States to other countries or regions in connection with storage and processing of data, fulfilling your requests, and operating the Services. The United States and other regions to which we may transfer your data do not have the same data protection laws as the European Union and some other regions. By providing your personally-identifying information, you consent to the transfer of your personally-identifying information to the United States and to other world regions and the use of your personally-identifying information in accordance with this Policy.
Hiper Hipo does not place advertisements from 3rd party advertising partners or affiliates on our websites or blog and has no intention of doing so in the future.
We may occasionally update this Policy. When we do, we will also revise the “last updated” date at the beginning of this Policy. Your continued use of the Services after a revised policy has become effective indicates that you have read, understood and agreed to the then-current version of the policy. If we change this Policy in a manner that is materially less restrictive of our use or disclosure of your personally-identifying information, we will use reasonable efforts to notify you of the change and to obtain your consent prior to applying the change to any personally-identifying information that we collected from you prior to the date the change becomes effective. For example, we may send a message to your email address, if we have one on file, message you through the Services, or generate a pop-up or similar notification when you access the Services for the first time after such material changes are made. Material changes to this Policy will be effective upon the earlier of (i) your first use of any of the Services with actual knowledge of such change, or (ii) 30 days from providing you notice of such change as described in this section. We encourage you to periodically review this Policy to stay informed about how we collect, use, and disclose information.
